It’s time to bore you with a bit more about myself as I properly thank a couple of bloggers who nominated me for awards. It still amazes me the love I feel from each of you, when I have never met you in person. I really appreciate the gesture and thought you put into your own award acceptances and enjoy learning a bit more about you. But before I write my acceptances of my awards, I’d like to share with you an amazing gift I received.

“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.” — Thornton Wilder
There are plenty of things to be thankful for all year, but November when we here in the US celebrate Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect on all that we have. The activities of summer and the harvests to put up between September and October can overwhelm us. But come November, things have slowed down and we again have that much-needed time to reflect on those things we are so fortunate to have.
Saturday I noticed an icon that I didn’t recognize when checking the blog, I clicked to find the announcement of my two-year anniversary of blogging here on Living Simply Free. A lot has happened since I hit the publish button that first time both in my blogging and in my life.
In blogging that first post was hard to write. I had so many ideas but knew I couldn’t share everything at once. I didn’t know how to put links in a post or even a photo. My first attempts to add photos to the blog were free images as I had no idea how to upload a picture from my phone at the time. Now doing both is a breeze or I never would be able to produce the Friday Faves posts each week. Read the rest of this entry »
I just had to share with you my story of good fortune from Friday. With the snow not far away, I decided to head to the hardware store to purchase some necessary supplies to hold me off through winter, that and new knobs for the dresser I am working on. All pictures are from my outing on Friday, hope you enjoy what looks to be the last of our autumn colors. I love not having a car, I see so much I would normally miss or have to view from a distance if I were driving.
I have been so bad about accepting awards lately, but it isn’t because I don’t appreciate the thoughtful gesture that comes with them. I am honored to be nominated by such lovely people, many I wish I could invite over for tea and get to know better. So today I am going to group the most recent awards into one post. Of course you know I always change the rules, and today will be no exception.
I am about to reach a milestone on the blog I had never imagined when I began writing. I am 196 views from reaching 100,000 views! I want to thank everyone who has joined in. I began writing as a way to express how I was feeling after moving to my tiny apartment. I was happy, felt unburdened by stuff and life again looked fresh and new, but I was facing criticism (as I’ve discussed before) on my choice. I wanted to meet others who may have gone through similar things to what I was experiencing. I had no idea the number of fantastic people I would meet or how this blog would help me grow and focus on the things that are important to me.
Humid days tend to be lazy days, but with all the rain the sunshine and, yes even the humidity, had me itching to get things done. It was one of those days when I jump from one thing to the next as an idea popped into my head.
The weekend may be just around the corner, but if I don’t see some sunshine soon I may start getting into something not so smart. We are on day 3 of non stop rain and thunderstorms, which means I’m getting pretty bored of being stuck indoors.
To counter my boredom I’ve read 2 books so far and today inspired by Fairy at Organized Castle, I dug into my fabric stash I picked up for $2 a couple of weeks ago. On todays agenda, making more fabric napkins. In no time at all I had 20 new napkins, of which several went home with my daughter-in-law. The little ones think cloth napkins are a treat and with one who wipes his face on his shirt sleeves I’m hoping the family will see the advantage of cloth napkins.
Any way, it’s time to share with you my favorites of this week.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. The sun is shining and we may escape rain for the first day this week. I had a welcome sight this morning when I headed out to the garden, not all was lost in our frost. Plants I was about to pull have new life on them, not all but that’s okay, so my morning started well. Read the rest of this entry »
Has there ever been someone in your life you wish you could go back and thank for what they taught you? This week I have that chance. Today I want to share something extremely personal, something I never thought I would consider sharing with the world. Read the rest of this entry »
