I can finally show you the dresser I found several weeks ago. It comes with quite the story. I spotted this dresser and knew from a distance what I wanted to do with it. Here it is the day we brought it home.

Before I show you the simple fix I made to the latest find I want to thank each and every one of you for your well wishes as we had been in the path of the tornado activity and storms yesterday. My area, in Pennsylvania, escaped the worst of it with no real tornado activity. We have a few power lines down from the high winds and a lot of tree branches down as well. My son was without power still today, but that was the worst of it.
Last week I was excited to find a TV cabinet sitting in the hallway waiting for me to find. The maintenance men I spoke to have come through big time for me in my goal to reduce the amount of useable items from my town ending up in the landfill. Here is what I found.
I have this done so I am going to post it a bit early tonight. Our storm is intensifying but not to worry this area while we see tornadoes they rarely do much damage, a home or two but nothing like the mid-west sees. Thank you all for your wishes of safety. I live in a very solid building so I will be fine, although possibly without power.
I’m back with more gift ideas today. I hope you are well on your way to completing your shopping, or at least your gift list and setting your budget. If you are having trouble staying under budget I believe the following ideas may help you. First up:
For a Loved One
When you are busy Friday seems to come around so quickly. I am enjoying my son being out of work, hopefully for him it won’t be that long. I rarely got to see him as he worked 3rd shift and many double shifts. When he wasn’t working or sleeping he was busy with his children trying to get some quality time with them. He’s been visiting often and tonight even called and told me not to make dinner as he was cooking and going to bring me a plate. Love when I don’t have to cook.
This is a picture of our local mall, huge isn’t it? :-) Besides a Dollar General, there are 2 restaurants, a tanning business, hair salon, dog agility school, the rest are mostly offices or empty spaces. This is where my granddaughter was taking her dance lessons as well. Her parents received a letter today telling them the mall has been sold to a new owner and due to a dispute over the new lease the dance school has closed. While the school offered to give all students from this location free lessons for the rest of the year it will be quite a drive and treacherous in the winter months. We are now looking for another dance program that will still be affordable for her to attend. With the good comes the bad I guess.
I won’t bore you further, here are my favorite posts of the week.
A few things are changing around here. With the colder weather the furniture I still have to work on had to come inside. A cluttered home isn’t how I can live, it will drive me crazy. I mention this as it’s the reason I am a day late on Change the World Wednesday. Here’s a peek at what I mean by cluttered. These are sitting in front of the couch,
I have finally completed a chair I was given several months ago. When I received it its condition was horrible. 4 of the 6 spokes on the back were falling out, one side of the main back support was snapped in half and there was glue all over the seat where someone had tried to hold the spindles in by pouring glue all around them and on the seat. To say this chair was ready for the dumpster is an understatement. But it had good bones and it was wood. I have always said that if something is made of wood it can be repaired. This chair would seriously test that belief.
I decided to share this with you now while I wait for the last coat to dry and before I give it the last touch-up.
Life is crazy now, my son has been let go at work, so both he and his wife are out job hunting….and I have done a lot of babysitting as a result. I know you were expecting to find the Friday Faves about now, don’t worry I’ll be back this afternoon with your weekend reading.
I did promise to show you my new draft dodger for my back door. Any one can do this, if you don’t sew I’ll show you how you can make this without the need for a needle and thread.
Autumn is here, the days are beautiful and the nights are getting pretty cool, which means it is time to prepare our homes for winter. Last week’s challenge seemed simple enough. I had no fridge to clean but I did have plenty of little things to get done around here to save on energy costs and make the apartment more comfortable during the cold yet to come.
I am often amazed by the prices we are expected to pay for items for our homes. I recently spotted an entertainment center for sale on Craigslist, the title stated the original price was $4,995. Seriously you paid for a Television then went looking for something to hold it and ended up spending $5,000? So today, I would like to share some pictures of items I have found for sale in magazines given to me and tell you how you can have the same look for a fraction of the cost. I’ll start with this bench.
