Last night my grandson wanted me to watch one of his favorite movies with him on Netflix. No problem. It was interesting, until it hit on the subject of garbage, then I got angry.

Rarely do I make plans in advance. I go with the flow, so to speak, but I have made plans for today. The reason is I need to get prepared. I am in the path of Hurricane Sandy, while inland and not affected by the predicted storm surges, we are already getting high winds and are expecting power outages.

I grew up using Dawn dish soap. I was raised to believe this was the best product to use. As an adult and mother, I did some digging to learn what was in Dawn and decided I could do better. Why would I want to eat off of plates and utensils and put my filtered water in a glass that was washed with this stuff. I was on a mission to find a better way to do dishes. I found it a few months ago.
There are many people who believe living without all the amenities available to us to own today are deprived. But Kate of Enuff Stuff reminded me that people used to sacrifice for a better life. Kate shared a few interesting details I hadn’t known about the sacrifices many made to pay for World War II. I decided it was time to share a family story about the Great Depression.
For those of us who use natural cleaners such as baking soda, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide there aren’t too many things we need to worry about. If my grand children were here the only thing I would worry about them getting into would be the peroxide, so it stays up where they can’t get to it. But if you are buying commercial cleaners the news out isn’t good.
